Parliament approves sending Kazakh military to participate in UN missions
Deputies of the Mazhilis and the Senate at a joint meeting of the chambers chaired by the Speaker of the Mazhilis Erlan Koshanov considered the proposal of the Head of State to send a peacekeeping contingent of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan to participate in United Nations missions.
The President's address to Parliament was read by Defense Minister Ruslan Zhaksylykov. It is planned to send up to 430 people. Participation in UN missions will allow the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan to acquire the necessary combat skills characteristic of peacekeeping operations, which will be used to improve the combat training of troops.
Deputy, Chairman of the Mazhilis Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security Aigul Kuspan noted that Kazakhstan has established itself as a responsible participant in UN missions to ensure global peace and security and in a short time was able to take leading positions in international peacekeeping processes.
“I am sure that the proposal of the President of our country being considered today is a logical continuation of the policy to strengthen peace and international security that our state has been pursuing since the first days of its Independence,” said the Majiliswoman.
As a result, parliamentarians decided to support the proposal of the Head of State to send a peacekeeping contingent of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan to participate in UN missions.
